data-mm-id=”_5tlqj0gna”>One by one, America's cities and states are deploying executive action to shut down bars and dine-in service for restaurants to limit the spread of coronavirus. If it can happen in our nation's three biggest cities — New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago — it's a solid bet that by the end of the week there will be scant territories in which you can enjoy a watering hole or a nice communal meal. The service industry is going to be far from alone as far as suffering businesses are concerned when the collateral damage of this is all said and done. But it's a safe bet that if there is not a large bailout from the government at the state and/or federal level, many of our favorite bars and restaurants will perish. And the impact would not end there. The dystopian scenes as revelers packed bars in celebration of St. Patrick's Day in cities across America on Saturday forced governments' hands. We've all seen that matches meme a thousand times by now, and it became clear that social isolation was just not going to work for us on the voluntary honor system. Nevertheless, now we must look towards the next derivative of this decision as far as upholding our society is concerned.Bars and restaurants already operate on notoriously thin margins, and their workers depend on tips. Yes, restaurants can ramp up takeout and delivery business, but this will provide little solace for servers who have their rent, taxes, and utilities bills due. And how are bars that don't serve food supposed to weather this?Giant, which is probably my favorite restaurant in Chicago on account of their unique flavors and textures, published an open letter to Illinois governor JB Pritzker on Instagram, commending him for the health-conscious decision to close bars and restaurants across the state, but urging an immediate benefits package so that our favorite establishments do not go under (there are four slides): View this post on Instagram Thank you for your leadership today, @jbpritzker. Like you, we believe in prioritizing the safety of our employees and our guests. As a chef, we also must call upon you today to announce immediately what you plan to do for our workers and for our small businesses so that when it is safe to feed others, we can continue to so. For more information on what chefs of Illinois are asking Governor Pritzker, swipe through this post. . @senduckworth @lightfootforchi @senatorvanpelt5th @aldermanburnett @illinoisrestaurants A post shared by giant (@giantchicago) on Mar 15, 2020 at 4:02pm PDTRecommendations from Giant included immediately supporting emergency unemployment benefits for all furloughed workers, elimination of payroll tax, and a call for rent and loan abatement for impacted workers. We've seen how galvanizing it was when billionaire owners and millionaire players pledged to support hourly arena workers while sports are closed; there is not a similar mechanism by which independent bars and restaurants can support their workers. GoFundMe's are also a nice thought and will certainly be helpful for some servers and bartenders, but it would be precarious for the entire industry to rely on that. Without help, a lot of these places will just shut down — if you live in a big city, you become accustomed to seeing that happen with some of your favorite spots in the best of times. There will have to be government bailouts of the service industry, applicable to both businesses and workers. Beyond the fact that bars and restaurants are a prominent factor into forming the souls of municipalities, the effect of this lost money in the chain link of how economic recirculation works is nearly impossible to calculate.

The next step is obviously to get a win, Hutchinson said after the draw with Bulgaria.

Starting with the hosts, while Norwich might have opened 2023 in the midst of an extended nightmare, David Wagner s men have come roading back in some style. Last seen putting in another thrilling display as they claimed an action-packed 3-2 victory away at Millwall, the former Huddersfield boss should find the mood around Carrow Road at a real high. Finding a route into the play-off places and with their sights set on booking an immediate Premier League return this year, the Canaries have now collected 13 points from their last five Championship outings. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Arsenal s long Premier League title wait is helping them score late goals and insists the Gunners are still favourites for the domestic crown.
Arsenal s 3-0 win at Fulham on Sunday meant they restored their five-point lead over second-placed City with 11 games to play.
The Gunners latest win was more routine in comparison to the recent 3-2 triumph over Bournemouth where Reiss Nelson netted a 97th-minute winner, or last month s thrilling come-from-behind 4-2 victory at Aston Villa.
Guardiola argued Arsenal s long drought for a Premier League title, having not claimed the honour since 2003-04, was fuelling their belief late in games.
On the contrary, the Catalan sensed City lacked that desire having lifted four of …
Making history and not revenge is at the forefront of Atletico Madrid s mind as they lock horns with Real Madrid in the Champions League final, said Spanish midfielder Saul.
Atletico and Madrid will go head-to-head in Milan on May 28 in a rematch of the 2014 decider.
Madrid triumphed 4-1 after extra time in the final in Lisbon two years ago, but Saul insisted his team-mates are not seeking revenge as Atletico bid to win a maiden Champions League title.
If Real Madrid are a superior team, they will need to prove it on the field, he told Radio MARCA on Thursday.
The final in Milan is not a rematch of Lisbon, or a chance for revenge, but rather it is a chance to make history.

Gareth Bale has praised Zinedine Zidane for allowing Real Madrid s stars the freedom they need to perform at their peak.
Zidane has overseen a transformation of fortunes at the Santiago Bernabeu since taking over from Rafael Benitez in January, with Madrid having a Champions League final against Atletico Madrid on the horizon after coming close to snatching the Liga title away from Barcelona.
Madrid head into Saturday s European showpiece at San Siro on the back of a 12-game winning run in La Liga, and Bale says Zidane, a great of the game as a player with France, Juventus and then Los Blancos, has adopted the correct approach in his first senior coaching role.
I think he s come in and he s kind of just given us that freedom to enjoy ourselves on the pitch, said…

Gareth Bale and Keylor Navas have been used to promote Real Madrid s new home kit for next season, despite both being heavily linked with a move away from the club.
Zinedine Zidane s men are undergoing a major rebuild following a poor 2018-19 campaign, with more than €100million already being spent to bring in Eder Militao and Luka Jovic.
More big-name signings are expected to follow in the coming weeks, including Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, but others such as Bale and Navas could be on their way out of the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale played no part in Madrid s final three matches of last season, while goalkeeper Navas featured more regularly in the closing weeks of the campaign but has still been tipped to find a new club.
