Shiels shown the door at Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock have parted company with manager Kenny Shiels, the club announced on Tuesday.

The Scottish Premier League side cited footballing and regulatory reasons for the decision to terminate the 57-year-old s contract with immediate effect by mutual agreement.
Kilmarnock endured their worst home form in 30 years last season and their League Cup defence ended in humiliation as they lost to Stenhousemuir in the first round.
Shiels has also found himself in hot water this season, with the latest controversy seeing the Scottish Football Association hand him a four-match touchline ban for bringing the game into disrepute for questioning the impartiality of the organisation s judicial panel, as well as the integrity of champions Celtic.
Shiels joined in June 2010 as assistant to Mix…

Mata feels important under Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata insists there has been no issue with manager Jose Mourinho, adding he feels important at Old Trafford.

Many expected Mata to leave when Mourinho was appointed in May, after he was sold to United by the then-Chelsea boss in 2014.

But Mata made captain for United s goalless draw against Burnley last week has been a key contributor for Mourinho this season, scoring three goals in 13 appearances in all competitions.

I do feel an important part of this team, I really do, said Mata.

I can say I am enjoying my football right now. Since I came to Manchester United we had ups and downs but I always felt an important player under any manager, and I feel important now.

Too many things were said, too many stories were…

Liverpool sign Alisson in world-record deal

Liverpool have announced the signing of Brazil international Alisson from Roma for a fee that could rise to £65million, a deal that smashes the record for the world s most expensive goalkeeper.

The 25-year-old was reportedly a target for Real Madrid and Chelsea after his performances for last season s Champions League semi-finalists and for Brazil at the World Cup.

However, he has signed a long-term contract at Liverpool after the Reds reached an agreement with Roma on Thursday.

The fee an initial £56m with a further £9m in potential add-ons  eclipses the £34.7m that took Ederson from Benfica to Manchester City in 2017, which was the most any club had paid for a goalkeeper, in sterling, at the time.

Alisson is set to take over as number one from…

Montpellier v Paris Saint-Germain: Champions out to seal another title

Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier insisted his side have not begun celebrating despite having one hand on the Ligue 1 title ahead of Saturday s trip to Montpellier.

Stoke boss Hughes wants Arnautovic stay

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes said he is hopeful Marko Arnautovic will sign a new contract with the Premier League club.

Arnautovic s contract does not expire until June 2017 but Hughes wants to secure the Austria international forward s long-term future.

The 26-year-old, who arrived from Werder Bremen in 2013, has starred for Stoke this season, scoring three goals including the acrobatic winner against Chelsea on November 7 and tallying two assists to help the club to just one defeat in 10 matches in all competitions.

I m thinking about it [Arnautovic s contract] and I m sure Marko is, Hughes said.

We want him to stay.

Hughes added: The two years he has had here have been good.

But there is the potential to have a better year this ye…

A buzzing Odion Ighalo has thanked Shanghai Shenhua for allowing his loan move to Manchester United to be extended until January 2021.

Ighalo initially joined United in a temporary deal
00004000
at the end of the January transfer window as the club sought cover in attack for the rest of the season, with Marcus Rashford suffering a long-term injury.

The signing of Ighalo raised eyebrows, but the former Watford man scored four goals in eight matches in all competitions starting just three of those games.

The season s suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic in March led to concerns United would lose the services of Ighalo before the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign.

But United confirmed they had reached an agreement with Shanghai on Monday, leaving th…

Southgate: ´Free hits´ offered by UEFA´s anti-racism protocol not acceptable

England manager Gareth Southgate feels UEFA s approach to tackling racist incidents in stadia is unacceptable and he would not hesitate to lead his team off the pitch if required in future.

The subject of racism in society has been at the fore of global discussion since George Floyd died in Minneapolis on May 25. A police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes, sparking protests across the United States and beyond.

England players were subjected to racist abuse during Euro 2020 qualifiers in Montenegro in March 2019 and in Bulgaria last October.

UEFA s three-step procedure for tackling such incidents was initiated during the game in Sofia, with the match twice stopped and announcements made over the stadium s public address system.

The last resort wou…
