Atleti boss Simeone focuses on positives despite Celta´s late leveller

Diego Simeone insists there are plenty of positives to take from Monday s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo despite the disappointment of conceding an 89th-minute equaliser.

Los Rojiblancos looked set to restore their 10-point lead over Barcelona and Real Madrid at LaLiga s summit after a Luis Suarez brace overturned Santi Mina s opener for Celta.

They were denied a ninth consecutive top-flight win, however, when substitute Facundo Ferreyra making his debut after joining from Benfica on transfer deadline day bundled home from close range late on.

Despite that late blow, Atleti still have an eight-point lead at the top of the table and boast a game in hand on their rivals.

They are unbeaten in 22 home league games their best run in the competition since a 2…

Icardi out to delay Real Madrid´s progression – Champions League in Opta numbers

Elsewhere, victory for Atletico Madrid away to Juventus will make certain of a last-16 spot with a game to spare, while Jose Mourinho takes charge of Tottenham in the Champions …

Chicago Fire v Charlotte FC: Smith shrugs off road-trip worries

Charlotte FC boss Dean Smith believes “mentality” is the main issue for sides daunted by away trips.

Smith takes his team to face the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, with Charlotte having taken just one point from their five away games in MLS so far this season.

But Smith struggles to see why there is such a difference in confidence between home and away fixtures.

“Mentality,” said Smith when asked what the issue was.

“I believe some people, before they even leave, have accepted it’s going to be tougher. The only reason it’s tougher is because that’s in your head. Yes, you’ve got to travel, you haven’t got home fans or home advantage, but the pitches are still the same size, you’ve still got to get into your box and score a goal, and they…

But this has still been a successful season for Jurgen Klopp s side, who could yet claim a treble having already lifted the EFL Cup and FA Cup in England.

It promises to be an immense spectacle, with Opta s pre-matc…

Thomas Muller said it was definitely a disappointment . Jurgen Klopp was left confused. Lothar Matthaus doesn t understand the world any more . Even Lionel Messi used his victory speech to suggest France Football issue a retrospective 2020 award.

Whatever your views on the Ballon d Or this year, chances are you saw Messi beating Robert Lewandowski to the prize and thought it was at least worthy of discussion. Robbed of the chance to claim it last year when France Football cancelled it – hence Messi s magnanimous suggestion to the organisers – Lewandowski suited up for this year s gala having scored 53 goals in all competitions in 2021, at least 15 more than anyone else, with a new single-season Bundesliga scoring record in his pocket and yet another league title with Bayer…
